Safe Womanhood Kenya is a legally registered Community Based Organization (CBO) registered in 2003. The organization provides a helping hand to the refugee community living in Nairobi, comprising of Somalis, Ethiopians and Sudanese who have ran away from an unpredictable future, and the hostile environments of their war-torn countries. As our logo denotes, we try as much as we can to provide solutions and services to them, for we have found that in a foreign land, they are continually assailed by almost equal adversites.
We are not starting now, but have been providing medical information and services to these individuals / families, and especially the women on reproductive health, child care, and the challenges associated with the voicelessness of a refugee, modern day slavery and effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a prevalent monster among them.
In this web edition, we tell of how the less known, but genuine challenges of these dear people living among us that many are oblivious to, and how we, as an organization engage them by intervening (when able) againist practices and pains that can be avoided, providing help and care that could not otherwise (or easily) come to them, and becoming actively involved in building a posterity for better family health.
We believe that when you know our story, your eyes can be opened to the gargantuan challenge we face, the high walls we must scale over, the limitations we have to overcome, hurdle we have to struggle to jump, and join with us in every way to support our cause for safe womanhood, motherhood and a healthier populace.
