We have rescued over 1000 women from violent marriages
Each one of us at Safe Womanhood-Kenya and Safeway Medical Clinic has experienced many aspects of the developing world especially East and the horn of Africa, from diverse points of view. Together, we collectively recognize the disadvantages that regional conflicts have caused in these regions. For instance, the over two-decade old internal conflicts in Somalia; Ethiopia, the Sudan and Northern Uganda have facilitated an excessive situation of movement of communities - into Kenya - looking for safety and respite from volatile situations. Unfortunately, these have created a segment of the region's population that is vulnerable, demeaned, hopeless and hapless.
Our goal is therefore to crack this negative cycle and develop a crop of young refugee women and children capable of breaking through this trend, to become inspiring pillars of their generations. We strive to enhance individuals and refugee communities by focusing on initiatives, such as subsidized medical care, social entrepreneurship and awareness creation, which will add 'real' growth and support in building a strong foundation for the future of their lot.
We have rescued over 1000 women from violent marriages
We have rescued over 500 young girls from undergoing the cut and forced marriages.
At Safe Womanhood-Kenya, we make every effort to promote the general health and social well being of refugee women and children by providing them with subsidized medical services and functional health information with a view to enabling them to make informed choices about their lives and those of their children.
“A world where every girl and woman, regardless of circumstance, enjoys the right to a safe, healthy, and empowered life, free from injustice and inequality.”
At Safe Womanhood-Kenya, we envision a future where refugee girls and women in Nairobi – and across Kenya – are equipped with the knowledge, support, and resources they need to thrive in every aspect of their lives. We aim to create a society where access to quality reproductive healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and where girls and women, who have fled conflict and hardship, can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Through education, healthcare, and community empowerment, we seek to end the cycle of vulnerability and ensure that every woman and girl in our care is empowered to live a life of safety, choice, and opportunity.
Safe Womanhood-Kenya is a legally registered Community Based Organization (CBO) established in 2003, with the objective of curbing the many injustices faced by the girl child - and women in general - with emphasis on reproductive health.
