The Prevention and Protection of Vulnerable Girls & Women program aims to address the issue of abuse and forced labor affecting young girls and women in Nairobi’s refugee population. The program aims to prevent abuse and exploitation, empower girls and women through education, support families, and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms. Key activities include education campaigns, school outreach, community dialogues, legal aid clinics, child protection officers, referral systems, vocational training, and peer mentoring programs.
Education campaigns focus on child rights, the risks of abuse, and the importance of education for girls. School outreach promotes girl child education and safe learning spaces. Community dialogues raise awareness about child labor and advocate for stronger community-based protection. Legal and social protection services provide legal assistance, representation, and referral systems for victims. Empowerment and life skills training include vocational training and peer mentoring programs.
Collaboration with local and international organizations, such as NGOs and UN agencies, and Kenyan government bodies, ensures that refugee girls and women have access to protection under Kenyan law.
